For our Asia trip, our first destination was Hong Kong. We stayed with our good friend Connie who took us to all the great local food spots and we are forever in her debt! What was interesting in Hong Kong was the abundance of Japanese restaurants. People in Hong Kong are very health-conscious so Japanese cuisine including fresh sushi, ramen, and takoyaki is very popular.
These are the highlights of our Hong Kong trip:
Toi Hokkaido,japanese rice pizza
Hong Kong Street Food, everything from skewers to baozi
Aberdeen Marina Club,cantonese dim sum
Hong Kong Desserts:Yee Shun Milk Company,Honeymoon Dessert
Rossio,Italian &Japanese buffet at the MGM Grand in Macau
Tonkichi,japanese tonkatsu

Amanda:
The influx of Taiwanese plant managers and merchants into China has created a growing demand for Japanese foods. Taiwan was a Japan colony for over 50 years. Many Taiwanese grew up being bilingural in Taiwanese and Japanese. Taiwanese love Japanese food and fancy themselves as part Japanese. In mainland China we also see a growing trend to ‘Taiwanese cuisine”restaurents (like Bob’s 66).
