Hong Kong Desserts

Hong Kong has some of the best light desserts I’ve ever tasted. They also love to eat fruit – mangoes are very popular along with red bean and grass jelly.  Here are two of the best dessert places we visited!

Yee Shun Milk Company

This place makes double-steamed milk which has a light milk flavor and a custard-y flan texture.  On the left is a Coffee steamed milk which tasted like milk steeped in coffee grinds and slightly bitter. The right is the original double-steamed milk.

But the Steamed egg was our favorite: great egg taste, not too sweet and molten hot. Their Pork Cutlet bun, which is actually a popular Macau snack, was a simple fried pork cutlet served in a plain toasted bun – no sauce, no toppings, nada. And it was delicious!

This place is known for their southeast asian dessert offerings like the Mango Pomelo & Sago Sweet Soup with Ice-cream. Tofu pudding (douhua), red bean soup, and other chinese dessert soups are topped with mango, sago, coconut, etc. On the left I think is the Coconut Juice & Sago grass jelly and the right is the Mango Pomelo & Sago Tofu Pudding with sweet soup. The first dish was kinda underwhelming, nothing much to write about here. In the second dish the pomelo added a slight grapefruit bitterness and I think this dish would’ve been better without it, but it was still creamy and refreshing.
