Steak Revisited

Happy Valentine’s day from YumYum Panda! And what’s more romantic than a big hunk of beef? :) Since our initial steak post,Amanda and I have tried several new cuts of beef and cooking methods to pick our personal favorite, that being  Ribeye steak, seared on a super hot cast iron skillet and finished in the oven. It’s a simple recipe and with minimal prep and cook time.

Totto Ramen

Totto Ramen has been on our radar for a while now.  Amanda and I were seeing Wicked nearby and we decided to make it a dinner + show date:both were amazing :)

Totto specializes in chicken-broth ramen called Chicken Paitan, which is lighter and clearer than the other popular ramen broth called Pork Tonkotsu made from pork bones.  What made me happy was seeing their giant trashcan-sized stockpots on the fire behind the counter, filled to the top with chicken and bones. If you like things spicy, you can make this tasty chicken broth even better by getting it “Spicy”with a dollop of  spicy chili sauce,or “Extreme Spicy”where they just give you a whole dish of the chili sauce on the side.  You’ve been warned…the spiciness builds!

All in all,I would recommend this place over Ippudo.  This place is cheaper, doesn’t have ridiculous waits, and I personally like the lighter chicken paitan broth over the cloudy pork tonkotsu broth. Totto’s menu options might be a little sparse compared to Ippudo, but when you’ve got a hankering for ramen, does it really matter what else is on the menu? ;-)

Kris takes on Kahlua Brownies

Cooking to me is about sharing the yummy deliciousness with my friends so it always makes me happy when we’re able to leave an impression on someone with one of our recipes. Granted this is Amanda’s dish so I’m really just basking in her limelight…anyway, kudos to Kris for a successful attempt and for what I’m sure will be the first of many request for more brownies :P
